Narrabri Dirt Bike Club’s 2025 season will get underway at the Newtown Park track this Sunday when round one of the motocross series is held.

Club officials are looking forward to the season opener following positive outings at last Saturday’s kickstart/endorsement event and an RPA day on Australia Day, at which more than 70 riders attended.

Motocross racing has not been held in Narrabri since the 2022 season and was affected by the COVID pandemic prior to that.

However, a small but hard-working committee was formed at the annual general meeting last year, at which it was decided that the club would host an MX season in 2025.

Narrabri’s Michael McDougall is the president this year and is supported by vice-president Will Roach.

McDougall is the son of a former Narrabri Dirt Bike Club president, Nathan McDougall, and the grandson of the club’s long-time treasurer and race secretary Diane McDougall.

Michael’s mother Peta McDougall is also a former committee member, and the club is in safe hands with him at the helm.

Diane McDougall is back on board as treasurer this year and there are two general committee members, including Simon Bolton and Georgie McDougall.

Michael is also the secretary of the club and he told The Courier that he and the entire committee were excited for round one on Sunday.

“It’s been a monumental effort to get everything ready since the AGM,” McDougall said.

“The new committee went out there for a working bee and the whole track was probably about two metres high of clover. You couldn’t see it at all. It took us about two to three months just to get the track ready again.

“I was a bit worried about the rain we’ve had, but I was just over at the track (on Monday) and it was still dry underneath.

“I’m over the moon and ecstatic now. We can’t wait for round one. As a committee, I don’t have the words to describe how proud of each other we are.

“It should be a good day. We had an RPA day back on Australia Day just to let everyone know we’re back sort of thing, and we had 72 riders there. If that’s anything to go by for our first raceday, I have very high hopes.”

Round one of the MX season will be followed by an RPA day on Sunday, May 18. Rounds two to five of the MX season will then be held on June 22, July 20, August 31 and September 28.

An RPA day and the presentation will then wrap up the 2025 season on Sunday, October 12.

Narrabri Dirt Bike Club advised that gates will open at 6am on Sunday. Scrutineering and sign-on will start at 6.30am, with scrutineering to end at 8am and sign-on to end at 8.30am. The riders’ brief will begin at 8.45am and practice will get underway from 9am. Racing will then start when practice ends.

Divisions that will be held on the day are as follows:
Seniors – A-grade, B-grade, C-grade, Snr rec class, all powers and vets (over-35).
