New time restrictions in relation to the operation of businesses on Anzac Day will come into effect this year for NSW.

Under the Retail Trading Amendment (Anzac Day Trading Hours) Act 2024, ‘non-exempt’ retail shops are no longer allowed to open after 1pm on Anzac Day, and some businesses previously able to open will need to remain closed for the entire day.

Businesses classified as a ‘small shop’, those outside of retail or with special exemptions can still operate as usual. Exempt shops include cake and pastry shops, chemists, cooked provision shops, florists, fruit and vegetable shops, newsagents, nurseries, pet shops, music/DVD shops, restaurants, cafes, kiosks, seafood shops, takeaway food and drink shops, tobacconists, vehicle service centres and petrol stations.
