Wee Waa brothers and local bowlers Kyne, Brock and Ellis Allen recently travelled to the Merimbula Dolphins Bowling Club where they competed at Bowls NSW’s 2024/25 State Junior Championships.

It was a second appearance at the event for the Wee Waa Bowling Club trio and they all competed in singles, pairs and fours divisions.

Finals positions eluded the three boys, but they all scored wins across the week and combined for several second-place sectional finishes.

For 12-year-old Ellis, 15-year-old Brock and 17-year-old Kyne, it was an enjoyable three days’ play and they relished the opportunity to take on some of the best junior players across NSW.

The event got underway on Monday, April 14, and pairs was first up.

Ellis and Brock teamed up and they were placed into section one. They had the round one bye and then took down Tura Beach’s Kaspar Roehrig and Merimbula’s Hudson Altmann 15 shots to 11.

Engadine duo Will Price and Cooper Wrightson had won their round one match, which made their round three contest against the Wee Waa boys a quarter-final qualifier. The Allen brothers went down 21 shots to six in that game and placed second on the section one ladder.

Kyne teamed up with Merrylands’ Tyson Rich in the pairs and they were placed into section six. They also had the bye first up and then went down 25 shots to 18 against Samuel Bastoli from Cabramatta and Joshua Potts from Taren Point.

They bounced back from that loss to defeat Raymond Terrace’s Zayne West and Windang’s Blake Perry 22 shots to 16 in round three, which saw all three teams finish level on a win each. Kyne and Tyson were forced to settle for second on shots for and against difference.

The singles was played on Tuesday, and Ellis was placed into one of the toughest under-15 boys’ divisions as he was drawn to play the defending champ Jacob Martin from Gunnedah.

Ellis went up against Merimbula’s Hudson Altmann in round one and he scored a 21 shots to 15 victory, but his momentum was halted when he went down 21 shots to four against the Gunnedah champ.

The Wee Waa boy bounced back from that game to win 21 shots to 16 against Engadine’s Ryan Price to end the day in second place on the section six ladder.

Kyne and Brock both played in the under-18 boys’ division and they were both winless in their sections.

The fours was played on Wednesday and the Allen brothers all teamed up together alongside Gunnedah’s Chase Fermor in section five.

The Wee Waa trio and Chase went down 28 shots to five in their round one game against Cooper Gersbach (Temora Ex-Services), Shakiya Murray (Griffith Exies), Steven Houting (Junee) and Harley Wilson (West Wyalong), and then won their second match 16 shots to 15 against Mia Bowman (Coonabarabran), Flynn Thompson (Gulgong), Cooper Jack Fliedner (Manildra) and Cooper James Dart (West Dubbo).

They then finished off the day in style with a crushing 25 shots to five win over Liam Osmond (Braidwood), Phoebe Fuller (Evans Head), Pippa Tooth (Braidwood) and Shae Fuller (Evans Head), but they were forced to settle for second in their section again after the team they were beaten by in round one went through undefeated.
