The Old Blues Foundation are still getting together after 15 years of weekly coffee catchups, which all began at the home of Barry Ford.

The story started when veteran rugby league player Barry, together with Doug Heiler and Terry Wilson, decided to support their former team mate Trevor Druce (dec) who had become unwell with cancer.

The trio wanted to get Trevor out of the house to enjoy some camaraderie with old friends.

The idea grew from there, with more and more veterans joining the group, until the gathering became too large for Barry to host and cater for.

When Trevor passed away, the decision was made to form the Old Blues Foundation in his memory.

The group moved to Narrabri’s local cafés, and making the rounds of each and every eatery each week on a Tuesday – the group is a familiar sight around town.

When 100 years of rugby league in Narrabri was celebrated at the Narrabri RSL Club in 2021, stories of the history of the Blues were enjoyed by many.

Former players and members of the club drew on their pride in playing for Narrabri and being part of the Blues family, a mutually supportive bond which they all value to this day.

The Old Blues Foundation group get together every Tuesday morning at various eateries around town: Back, Barry Ford, Gary Burr, Peter Etheridge, Brian Fogarty, Dougie Wood, Kevin Ford, Laurie Petrie, front, Gerald McInnes, Dennis Browning, Robert Gleeson, Bruce Penberthy, Doug Heiler, Terry Baker, Robert Baker, Graham Butler, Bernie Smith and Ken (Wally) Walker.
