Northwest Speedway Club Narrabri’s 2024/25 season has met a couple of roadblocks along the way, with two meetings earlier this year called off due to rain, but there was nothing stopping Saturday’s racenight from going ahead as local and travelling drivers produced an exciting night of racing at the WTC Group Speedway track.

An action-packed program included AMCAs, RSA fender benders, street stockers, fast fours and junior sedans as well as super sedans.

An estimated crowd of 300 people watched on from the hill as the cars and their drivers produced plenty of entertaining racing.

Local speedway racing fans will get another chance to get trackside this season after the club announced this week it would host another meeting on Saturday, June 28. It will be an afternoon meeting with a 1pm start and will include AMCAS, super sedans, RSA fast fours, fender benders, super production, junior sedans and street stockers as well as SSA junior sedans.

Club vice-president Mick Shoobert told The Courier that the committee was excited to put on another meeting, especially given how successful the night was on Saturday.

“It was a really good night and I think everyone enjoyed it,” Shoobert said.

“We had a couple of rollovers but everyone was safe.

“The racing was really competitive and we had a few super sedans, which was really good. They want to come back and race more in Narrabri.

“There were a lot of people there watching; probably about 300 up there sitting on the hill.

“Like I said, it was a really good night overall.”

There were plenty of Narrabri club members and local drivers among the podium finishers on the night.

Hunter Smith continued his superb junior all stars campaign as he won the division, while clubmate Benji Gordon placed second.

Fellow Narrabri junior Jackson Hayne placed second in the new stars division, Dion Bennett placed second in the super sedans, and Wyatt Lawler placed third in the street stockers.

There were several other Narrabri drivers in action across the night for the local fans to cheer for as well.
