Gumnut Cottage children were treated to storytime at the Narrabri Public Library on Wednesday morning.

The children participated in National Simultaneous Storytime, an initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association, which was conducted locally through Narrabri Shire Council.

Mayor Darrell Tiemens read The Truck Cat to the gathering.

Nationally, the event has seen as many as 2.3 million participants from 21,000 locations part of National Simultaneous Storytime which is held in libraries, schools, preschools, childcare centres, homes, bookshops and other public venues around the country.

The national event’s main aim is to shine a light on the value of reading and literacy.
