A significant works program aimed at enhancing the reliability and functionality of the Liverpool Plains water supply network commenced last week.

Work has begun at the Quirindi South Reservoir on Ray Carter Drive to replace incoming and outgoing pipework to improve reliability and water quality control.

This week work will get underway on Whittaker Street to replacement 300 metres of water mains on the bridge and its approaches.

The new pipe will be installed on the pedestrian bridge, as intended in its original design.

Additionally, a pipe for future wastewater (sewer) use will be installed to minimise future disruptions.

Work will occur concurrently at both sites for the next few weeks with some minor work also planned for Warrah Ridge Road to install scour/flushing points on the existing main from the Borambil bore field, adjacent to the bore and the Kamilaroi Highway.

“The $630,000 water reticulation improvement works will address frequently failed water mains and improve the operation and performance of these crucial distribution pipes, ultimately reducing service disruptions for residents and businesses,” said Liverpool Plains Shire Council mayor Ken Cudmore.

“We trust that the long-term gains of completing the work will outweigh the minor inconvenience in the short term.”

Traffic control measures, including stop/slow controllers, will be in place at certain locations. While most work will occur off-road, pedestrian access at the Whittaker Street bridge will be disrupted temporarily, with alternatives provided.

Residents near work zones may experience water disruptions as the new infrastructure is integrated into the existing system. Advance notice will be provided for all planned disruptions.

These upgrades will replace aging infrastructure with more reliable systems, reducing the frequency of service interruptions and leaks while improving operational efficiency.

The improvements will ensure a more dependable water supply in the vicinity of the works.
