Narrabri Golf Club’s 2025 shootout final will be contested on Sunday, June 15, and the finalists have been announced following nine qualifying events.
This year will see a new champion crowned, with the 2022 winner Peter Dewsbury, the 2023 winner Gail Richardson and the 2024 winner Karl Hatfield all not among the finalists or reserve list.
There were 10 scheduled qualifying events this year but only nine went ahead after one was washed out. The first was held back on Sunday, March 8, and the most recent was contested on Sunday, May 24.
Golfers must have competed in at least three qualifying events to be eligible to compete in the final, and club officials advised that there were golfers who registered scores that would have qualified for the final but missed out due to them having only played one or two events.
Club officials were also pleased to announce that five ladies qualified in the top 19, the most since the event was launched in Narrabri in 2022.
Ben Finnigan competed in five of the nine qualifying events this year and his score of 42 in round four back in April saw him finish ranked first out of the 85 golfers who took part.
Jim Pitman and Peg Penberthy were next best with 40 points, Lyn Shearer, Jordan Hannaford, Nick Chistakos and Darcy Hannaford all had 39, Scott Lamb, Wade Foster, Justin Orman and Kane Voysey each had 38, Tony Nott had 37, and the other seven qualifiers all with 36 were Louise Penberthy, Bruce Pyke, Wayne Saunders, Jye Manton, Will Brooks, Will Coldham and Troy Nott.
Mitch Cuell and Mick King also had a top score of 36, but they were ranked behind the seven qualifiers they were tied with based on the tiebreaker, which was players’ combined scores across the qualifying rounds. Cuell and King are now the first two reserves to be called upon if any of the 19 finalists are unable to play on June 15.
Other reserves are Bill Cameron, Brock Smith, Luke and Emily Flood, Dave McInnes, Jye Smith and Leisa Eather, who all had 35, Ingrid Moulds, Bob Taylor, Lachlan Woolford, Ken Nolan, Brady Jenkins, Paul Foster and Nick Scott, who all had 34, and Keith Flood with 33.
