Narrabri Rugby Club produced one of the most memorable bluewashes ever seen at Dangar Park when the Blue Boars defeated the Tamworth Pirates in all four grades on Saturday.

The two champion clubs went head-to-head for the first time this season in the fifth round of the Central North Rugby Union campaign, and Narrabri prevailed 24-22 in third grade, 22-17 in the women’s 10s, 27-14 in reserve grade and 48-5 in first grade.

Those results left the Blue Boars in a favourable position in their pursuit of the CNRU club championship, which they have been hunting since they last won it back in 2015.

Narrabri’s first grade and women’s 10s sides are both ranked first after five rounds, while their second grade side are ranked third and the third grade men are ranked second.

The club’s president Daniel Kahl said that Saturday’s success was even sweeter given it was the Blue Boars’ annual sponsors’ day.

“We had a great day at Dangar Park on Saturday. Sponsors’ day is always a great opportunity to welcome our sponsors and their staff and clients, people who really support our club, to come and enjoy a day at the footy,” Kahl said.

“The vibes were quite high. We had a great crowd both in the grandstand and in the sponsors’ marquee, and they were all treated to some great results on the field.

“It was great to have four grades in action. Thirds got a close win, the women’s team were under a bit of pressure early and played really well to get themselves a win, which was similar to our reserve grade guys who were under the pump early and fought back to win. There was a lot of character shown in those wins.

“First grade was really impressive, the way they bounced back from the last time they played at Dangar Park (a 24-17 loss against Gunnedah in round two). There has been a fair bit of self-analysis done there by those guys. They appear to have fixed quite a bit and they played some of their best footy.

“It was really exciting to put those performances on the park, and to get those results to go with it against a club like Pirates is really pleasing.”

The Blue Boars’ next home games will be played at Dangar Park later this month on Saturday, June 21, in round seven of the CNRU season. They will host their annual Old Boars Day that day when they welcome rivals Moree Bulls to town.

However, all eyes are now on a round seven trip to Inverell to tackle the Highlanders on Saturday, June 14, following the June long weekend bye.
