It was a stroll down memory lane for many in the Narrabri community last Friday, May 30 at St Francis Xavier’s as they celebrated the 140th anniversary of the school’s operation.
The school ran a special assembly, with musical performances from the school band and the very expressive kindergarten students singing their rendition of The Butterfly Song.
Members of the Smith and Duncan families, which both have four living generations of past and current students, were invited to cut the celebratory cake. After the official ceremony, there was then the chance for students and families to explore the memorabilia set up in the library.
It was an incredible sight, with old uniforms, photographs, newspaper clippings, textbooks and even a footing brick found from the original school building across the road.
As well as celebrating this impressive milestone, it was also a day of marking the end of Catholic Schools Week which had begun for the students on May 25.
