A blustery King’s Birthday long weekend saw Mount Kaputar dusted with snow on Monday morning.

Elevated locations throughout the state reported snowfall following a weekend cold snap.

For Mount Kaputar, it was a far-cry from the blizzard-like conditions in previous years when visitors were rescued, trees fell and the park closed to visitors.

However, locals still made good use of the wintry conditions and enjoyed a morning of snow fun.

In nearby Siding Springs Observatory, near Coonabarabran, snowfall was also reported. New England areas including Guyra, Dumaresq and areas near Armidale and Walcha also reported icy conditions.

In Narrabri, 12.4 degrees was the official maximum temperature recorded at the airport automatic weather station on Monday.

After a chilly long weekend, partly cloudy and sunny conditions are expected late this week and weekend with maximum temperatures between 15 and 16 degrees and minimum temperatures between 2 and 4 degrees.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, which manages Mount Kaputar National Park, encourages people to take precautions when driving at Kaputar during inclement weather. People are urged to follow the service’s advice as well as the advice of emergency services.
