The Narrabri RSL & Services Club were the hosts of a recent ArtsNational Narrabri arts talk with UK arts historian Alice Foster.
A packed auditorium listened to Alice presenting an in-depth look into the famous paintings of Leonardo da Vinci with her talk titled ‘De-Coding da Vinci’ on Monday, May 26.
Alice was joined by her partner Bob Allan, and with both visiting Australia for the first time, the pair were thoroughly enjoying their stay.
The committee were delighted to be joined by visiting ArtsNational Hume Circuit lecturer coordinator Steve Gow who travelled from Armidale to attend the event.
The ArtsNational touring circuit takes our lecturers through fourteen towns with a mix of city and rural stays.
The Hume Circuit is one of three circuits where guest speakers traverse across Australia as far as Cairns, Perth and Hobart.
The guest speakers are mostly home hosted in Narrabri and taken to local places of interest, or farms if there is seasonal work going on, which makes for an enlightening and enjoyable visit for visitors from overseas at this time of the year, who may have never seen a cotton-picking season in action before.
Graeme Compton led the evening with a summary of the weekend’s ArtsNational Young Arts project where he tutored Narrabri High School HSC students with his masterclass, ‘Literally Illustrating’.
The funds for the annual Young Arts scheme are derived from donations made by members and friends of ArtsNational Narrabri.
Each year a school or arts related student group or individual is selected across the Narrabri Shire district to receive the award.
The scheme covers all aspects of the arts – music, vocals, dance, theatre, photography, film-making, artwork, wood/metalwork, textiles, sculpture, and literature.
Targeting schools, local arts groups, and making enquiries with teachers in the arts sector, each year the search is on for talented students or arts organisations in need of assistance.
