Snakes were among the native wildlife flood victims.

As the water rose, snakes were forced from their winter resting places and into backyards and sheds.

Unfortunately the risk of living a few metres away, or inside the house in the some cases with a snake, is not one people are prepared to take.

There are many snake stories from the flood – none of them end happily for the snakes, unfortunately.

Pictured, Bernie Smith with two brown snakes.

One was inside a house and the other in the backyard.

The flood came at a bad time for snakes which were bedded down for the winter and forced on the move by the rising water.

Many have been killed – the deadly brown snakes and black snakes as well.
