Narrabri’s emergency services have come together to test and refine their response capabilities with a large-scale mock emergency exercise at Narrabri Airport.

The initiative was hosted through the Narrabri Shire Local Emergency Management Committee and was able to proceed thanks to funding received from the Premier’s Department used for a facilitator to coordinate the emergency. The mock incident, a 34-seat aircraft accident, saw local agencies collaborate on their response.

Services part of the exercise included Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Ambulance, NSW Police Force, VRA Rescue NSW, NSW SES, Local Land Services, Narrabri Airport staff, health services, EPA, welfare agencies, LEMO and LEOCON.

A total of 56 people attended and teams worked together to support the injured, secure the scene, and coordinate a multi-agency response — a valuable training opportunity for all involved.

Volunteers were role-players who acted as casualties to make the scenario realistic and successful.
