The Narrabri Lions Auxiliary has celebrated its most recent addition to the community, with four benches installed at the Narrabri Lawn Cemetery.

Cemetery visitors are now able to sit and reflect while visiting the graves of their loved ones.

The Lions Auxiliary thanked its contributing partners and hopes to make the seating project an ongoing development if funds allow.

Lions Auxiliary secretary Kerrie Haire thanked Santos, Narrabri Shire Council and Narrabri Lions Club for their contributions to the project.

Santos contributed funds for almost three benches.

Narrabri Shire Council contributed a bench while also taking care of the installation.

Narrabri Lions laid the foundations for the project.

The Lions Auxiliary contributed the remaining funds to ensure the project was completed.

“We are very grateful for the support we have received,” Mrs Haire said.

The project was initiated following a visit to the Moree cemetery by Mrs Haire and her husband, and Lions Club member, Vince.

After noticing Moree Lions had undertaken a similar project for its community, Mrs Haire raised the concept with her Narrabri club.

In typical Lions fashion, they turned a concept into reality.

“It gave us the idea that we should do something similar,” Mrs Haire said.

“It’s been a great project. We’re very happy with the end product.”

Plaques will be installed on three of the benches to ensure the community is aware of the Lions Auxiliary contribution.

The project marks what has been a successful year for the Lions ladies after recently marking 20 years of its much-loved Bookworm Bag initiative.
