Winter was announced with a boom at the Narrabri Art and Craft Society last Saturday June 21, with their first yarn bombing of the season.
While cruising by on the highway, you may have noticed the beautifully decorated tree out the front of the Craft Shop.
These pieces were hand-woven, hand-spun and even hand-dyed by the talented ladies in the Art and Craft Society.
It is an incredible sight to see and the community definitely think so.
Member of the society, Janice Smith spoke with The Courier on what Saturday entailed and some of the highlights from the day.
“Saturday was the opening of our winter exhibition.
“Yarn bombing is a type of street art and is great for attracting tourists,” Mrs Smith said.
“We have it every third Saturday during winter.
“At the shop we had all of your winter woolly essentials – jumpers, beanies, scarves, blankets and heaps more.
“In preparation for these, our art group meet on a Thursday each week to create the pieces and then curate them around the place.
“We also conduct little workshops, working with the wool.
“Like I said earlier, tourism is such a wonderful part of putting on these yarn bombings.
“We even had a couple of Canadians who stopped in the shop on Saturday to have a look while passing through town.”
