Shopkeepers are being encouraged to report incidents of shoplifting to police.

It follows recent success in police fining people for stealing items from local stores.

Under NSW laws, minor shoplifting offences can attract a $300 penalty notice. More serious offences can result in court-enforced penalties including higher fines and potential prison sentences.

Narrabri police are investigating an incident of theft at a Maitland Street pharmacy between 12.30-12.40pm on June 19.

A 32-year-old woman allegedly stole beauty products.

In a separate incident, a 15-year-old girl and 24-year-old woman allegedly stole a fishing knife from a Maitland Street retail outlet.
