It was cold and Boggabri township was engulfed in a heavy fog recently when the Narrabri Creative Craft Group members brought some much-needed relief in the form of two large bags of beanies and beautiful crochet lap rugs.
Betty Laird is the leader of the craft group and delivered the winter woollies to the Boggabri Anglicare Community Pantry and to the residents of Glentarkie on behalf of the group.
Coordinator of the ‘pantry’, Joanna Gillham, said: “the beanies and rugs were very well received, especially on such a cold morning, the beanies first to go”.
The pantry operates each fortnight and is well supported with approximately 50 bags of groceries distributed each fortnight.
People pay $15 for a bag of groceries, a fraction of the actual cost of the items included and most stay on for a cup of tea, some home cooked morning tea and a yarn to other residents.
Mrs Laird then proceeded to Glentarkie where the residents were offered beanies and rugs.
Not only did the residents receive some winter woollies, a couple of them were able to take advantage of the social interaction and to reminisce.
Winter days, along with friends and family members living at Maules Creek many years ago were hot topics.
