Narrabri Shire Council has confirmed that its drinking water supply meets updated Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, following a review of the criteria by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).
The NHMRC’s updated guidelines confirm new, lower values for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Australian drinking water supplies.
Testing results from June 24 show that the PFHxS level was 4ng/l, a slight improvement on the previous month. PFOS levels were 6ng/l, the same as the previous month.
Updated drinking water guidelines recommend a level of no more than 30ng/l for PFHxS and 8ng/l for PFOS.
Council will continue to regularly test the water supply and publish the results on its website.
