ROB Gilbert has been remembered for his decades of leadership and involvement in the local real estate industry.

Gilbert died aged 72 on Monday 15 June.

Gilbert joined the family real estate business, operated by his father the late Reg Gilbert, in 1972.

What he expected to be a few months’ work turned into 53 years of involvement with real estate.

Gilbert took a greater involvement with the business, with his wife Pauline by his side, as the years progressed and during the senior years of his parents Reg and Clare.

With his sharp wit and eagerness to chat with anyone, he added his own mark to the business and industry.

His down-to-earth nature and colourful sense of humour made him a recognisable identity in the community.

As it was while under the ownership of Reg and Clare, Rob and Pauline proudly continued as a family business.

It maintained that tradition right up until Rob marked his retirement with the closure of Reg Gilbert Real Estate in late 2025.

The business and real estate aside, Gilbert was well-known for his love of Narrabri.

This was evident at his retirement celebration, which was packed with well-wishers and held at One23 Cafe and Restaurant late last year.

“It’s somewhere I don’t ever want to move away from,” he told the gathering.

Gilbert was a proud family man and took great interest in his children Nathan, Peta, Courtney and Taryn as well as their families.

He was a staunch member of the Narrabri Lions Club and enjoyed a long association with the club.

Gilbert was predeceased by his wife Pauline, who died in July 2024.

He will be farewelled at a funeral service to be held in the Narrabri RSL auditorium on Friday.
