NARRABRI Police have been increasing patrols where possible following an increase in property-related crime in the district.

Support has been provided by officers from Oxley Police District and a number of items have been seized at various locations.

These items are undergoing forensic analysis.

Narrabri sector officer-in-charge Chief Inspector Robert Dunn acknowledged the community’s concerns with recent incidents.

Chief Insp Dunn said he had been disheartened to see Narrabri subjected to property-related offences.

Comments that the alleged perpetrators carrying out the offences are from out of town have been quashed by police, who have confirmed that people charged so far are Narrabri-based.

Chief Insp Dunn urged the community to report crimes to the police and provide assistance through supplying information and CCTV footage if needed.

“That community input is invaluable,” he said.

The Courier queried Chief Insp Dunn about social media commentary inciting people to take matters into their own hands.

Chief Insp Dunn encouraged people to understand that under legislation there are no legal protections in place for anyone who commits an offence.

“There are no protections no matter how much goodwill is involved,” he said.

Police have provided updates on recent arrests.

Legal proceedings have also been initiated in some instances.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested last week in relation to three offences in Narrabri.

Police will allege that the boy was involved in an incident at a Barwan Street premises as well as two other nearby locations.

He was charged with attempted break and enter with intent in relation to the Barwan Street incident.

The boy was charged with later attempting to enter a vehicle without the consent of the owner, entering closed lands, aggravated break and enter, and stealing from a premises.

Police refused bail and the boy was later granted court bail.

Police have initiated legal proceedings with another teen in relation to the same matters.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested last week and charged with goods in custody suspected of being stolen as well as resisting police in the execution of duties.

Bail was initially refused and a guilty plea was entered in court.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested as a person at liberty on bail.

Police will allege that the boy was driving a vehicle with stolen goods in his possession.

The boy is also alleged to have been carrying a number of weapons.

Police located other items of interest and investigations into these are continuing.

Bail was initially refused, but he was granted conditional bail in court.

A 31-year-old man was issued with a future court attendance notice after entering a Narrabri property.

Police allege the man was observed on CCTV entering the property’s front yard on two occasions.

The man allegedly stole items from the property.

A 29-year-old man was recently arrested after police found him asleep in a driveway.

The man confronted police upon their arrival.

He was charged with being in custody of a knife in a public place, two counts of possessing a prohibited drug, and acquiring a firearm part without authority.

Police have also seized a red motorbike which was stolen from a local property and later located in Fraser Street.

The motorbike, which is now undergoing forensic examination, was observed being ridden by a male wearing a hoodie.
