Police investigate alleged stolen bicycles, Wee Waa break-in

POLICE are investigating two separate incidents in the region after bicycles believed to be stolen were seized in Narrabri and a man awoke to find an alleged intruder inside his Wee Waa home.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District stopped a utility at the corner of Gibbons and Collins streets, Narrabri, about 3am on Friday.

Police allege the ute was carrying items believed to be stolen and, after speaking with the driver, a man in his 30s, seized multiple bicycles that were strapped to the vehicle’s tray.

In a separate incident, police are investigating a break and enter at a unit on Boundary Street, Wee Waa, about 12.20am on Friday.

Police were told the resident, a man in his 40s, woke to find a man inside his home before the alleged intruder fled on foot.

Several sets of car keys were reported stolen after the incident.

The resident chased the alleged intruder outside, where police allege the man dropped a bladed object in a nearby backyard before escaping. The weapon was later seized by police.

A crime scene was established and investigations are continuing.

Police also issued an appeal for information following a break and enter at a Balonne Street home on Friday.

At 5am, officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to the Narrabri home after reports of a break and enter.

Police arrived and were told two people had forced entry into a garage on the property and rummaged through items, before attempting to open a door into the home.

The pair were then reportedly disturbed by a security system at the residence and fled the scene.

A man, woman and infant were inside the home at the time. They were uninjured.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District attended the home immediately, but despite extensive patrols the intruders were unable to be located. Police established a crime scene and investigations are ongoing.
