From education and health services to local clubs and grassroots projects, Whitehaven is continuing to invest in the communities surrounding its North West NSW operations – and applications are now open for the next round of community funding.

Whitehaven has provided about $1.6m to more than 200 community clubs and organisations across NSW and Queensland so far in the 2026 financial year through its community grants and partnerships.

In North West NSW alone, Whitehaven invested more than $1m, supporting over 120 organisations and projects across the region.

Whitehaven’s Community Investment Program includes grants that help local schools, sporting clubs and community groups deliver specific projects and events, alongside longer-term partnerships that respond to local needs.

In NSW, funding applications are assessed by a community-based committee, with representatives from the Narrabri, Gunnedah and Liverpool Plains local government areas, as well as Indigenous and community representation.

Having local representatives involved helps to ensure that funding goes to projects that matter to the region.

The program involves several long-term partnerships across North West NSW.

They include the Clontarf Foundation and Stars Foundation to support Indigenous young people through school and into further education or employment.

Whitehaven also supports the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, which provides critical emergency aeromedical services across North West NSW.

Grants to local schools, sporting clubs and community groups have helped fund new equipment and facilities, local events, education programs and other grassroots projects.

Whitehaven’s community investment focuses on four key areas: economic prosperity and resilience; environment; education, training and employment; community health and wellbeing.

With the next community investment round now open, Whitehaven is encouraging community groups, clubs, schools and other eligible organisations across the region to apply for funding.

Applications are open until 30 September for Whitehaven’s NSW Community Investment Program.
