Narrabri Shire Council mayor Darrell Tiemens and deputy mayor Brett Nolan have been re-elected to their positions.
Both Crs Tiemens and Nolan were the only nominees for each position at last Wednesday afternoon’s council meeting.
General manager Eloise Chaplain presided over the election component of the meeting.
This will see Cr Tiemens retain the mayoral role for the remainder of the council term, with council elections scheduled for September 2028.
Cr Nolan will serve as deputy mayor for another 12 months.
Cr Tiemens thanked his fellow councillors for their support.
“I will continue to work really hard for our community,” Cr Tiemens told the meeting.
“I think we live in a fantastic community … but we’ve got a lot of challenges at our local council level.
“My door is always open. My phone is always open.”
Cr Tiemens described the role as a “real privilege”.
“It’s something I challenge other people to think about … serving at council,” he said.
“Being a councillor is such a privilege. We can really help steer the future of the entire Narrabri Shire.”
After resuming the chair, Cr Tiemens presided over the election of the deputy mayor position.
With Cr Nolan re-elected, Cr Tiemens expressed his thanks.
“I really appreciate everything you’re doing,” Cr Tiemens told Cr Nolan.
“I look forward to another good year.”
