A group of passionate Narrabri locals is determined to ensure children across the Narrabri Shire continue receiving free books every month.

Local supporters began planning more than a year ago to find a way to keep the books arriving in the mail for children from birth to five years of age. And so the Harvest Moon fundraising event came to fruition.

Their efforts will continue with the second Harvest Moon fundraising event on Saturday October 17.

Organisers say the event is about much more than enjoying a night out, with every ticket purchased, auction bid and raffle ticket helping fund the continuation of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Narrabri Shire.

The program provides participating children with a high-quality, developmentally appropriate book delivered to their home every month, free of charge to their families.

Organisers believe maintaining access to the program is particularly important because of the role early literacy plays in giving children the strongest possible start in life.

The local committee is determined to ensure that every child across the Narrabri Shire, from birth to age five, continues to benefit from the program.

The Harvest Moon event will feature drinks on arrival, catering by Relish, live entertainment from Gold Heist and Brookie Gillett, as well as an auction and raffle.

This year’s auction features some fantastic prizes.

Tickets are $125 per person, with organisers encouraging residents to gather their friends and support the cause.

Harvest Moon will be held on Saturday October 17, with tickets available through Humanitix at events.humanitix.com/dpil-harvest-moon-2026
