The Narrabri District Tennis Association hosted its annual Junior Club Championship event on Sunday morning.
NDTA head coach Shane Murphy said the number of kids playing improved from last year’s event.
“The numbers were fantastic,” he said.
“We ended up with 41 players.
“I think we had 30-odd last year so it was a good improvement.”
Murphy said the championship showed the quality of Narrabri’s junior tennis players.
“The day covered from under-8s to under-18s,” he said.
“By just walking around and watching the matches in play it was a pretty great standard.
“For a lot of the players it was their first time so they took their first steps down the coaching pathway.”
Murphy told The Courier that the main goals are to improve on the quality from previous years and attract new players.
“We’re always trying to keep the tennis going upward, on an improving spiral,” said Murphy.
“That’s what we are always trying to achieve. Narrabri tennis has heaps to offer for kids.
There is always an avenue here for kids who are interested to play tennis.”
