Buyer beware. A reader tells Topical that she recently purchased a book online from Amazon and ticked the ‘speedy delivery’ option which included a free month’s trial of Amazon Prime. One month later she was surprised to see her credit card had been charged an annual Amazon Prime membership fee of $59. She said that Amazon makes it very difficult to actually contact someone to amend and refund the money, however, the reader persisted and was successful in cancelling her unwanted membership and having the money refunded. She wonders how many people would be aware of this cynical and insidious practice and how many would let it go thinking they didn’t have any recourse or it just wasn’t worth the hassle.
