That’s our boy with Kylie

Pilliga’s Heather and Snow Draper are proud as punch of their grandson Calan Woods who stars in the recent Tourism Australia advertisement alongside celebrity singer Kylie Minogue.

“I was very excited about it, the whole family is excited,” said Mrs Draper.

“I saw the advertisement on TV but it was so quick, I didn’t take it all in and then I thought – ‘that’s Calan’.”

Calan was born in Narrabri and lived in Wee Waa until the age of 14 with his parents Alison and Shane and brothers Liam and Roy, the family now lives in Port Macquarie.

“Nobody was more surprised than me that he took up modelling,” Mrs Draper said about her grandson.

“As a little fella I looked after him sometimes and he’s always been a very quiet boy, not much bravado about him.”

Calan might be starting out in the modelling world but his quintessential, Aussie surfer looks are making waves in the industry.

He’s also landed shoots for brands such as Cotton On, Tommy Hilfiger and City Beach.

However the boy from Wee Waa is not just a pretty face, Calan also works as a builder.

“I’m really quite proud of him,” said Mrs Draper.

“I wish him all the best, he’s got his head screwed on the right way and he’s very neat with his money I believe, which is good.”

Mrs Draper also humbly added that she thinks her grandson gets his model looks from her husband Snow’s side of the family.

“He’s fair with long hair, he looks a lot like my second son Steven Draper.”

The Tourism Australia advertisement is Calan’s television debut and it’s a pretty impressive start considering the ad not only includes Kylie Minogue but also Ash Barty, Adam Hills, Shane Warne and Ian Thorpe.

The $15 million tourism campaign aired in the United Kingdom before the Queen’s traditional Christmas Day message with the aim of tempting Brexit-weary Britons to Australia by showing off our many attractions from sandy beaches to cute quokkas.

Calan plays the role of a surfer in the advertisement and it features him sitting on a rock at a Byron Bay beach offering Kylie Minogue some fish and chips.

He then sings along to the ‘Matesong’ with Kylie, the lyrics Calan and Kylie sing include: “Yes we know you love your fish ‘n’ chips and your curries but hey, that’s no worries good grub’s guaranteed.”
