Maitland Street activity by night and day will soon be monitored by security cameras.

Closed circuit television security cameras for Narrabri’s CBD have long been sought by Narrabri Chamber of Commerce and businesses.

Now, joint funding from the NSW government and Narrabri Shire Council will see the cameras installed.

High-definition CCTV cameras will be placed along Maitland Street, at the corner of Tibbereena and Doyle streets and near the Narrabri skate park.

The cameras, monitored by police, will deter vandals and other anti social activities.

Their high sensitivity capability of providing clear images of wrongdoers will be aided by the CBD street lights.

The absence of street lights had for years stalled the installation of cameras – the main street, particularly
under shop awnings was too dark.

Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries said Narrabri will receive a $205,500 joint investment from the NSW Government and Narrabri Shire Council for the installation of the CCTV in the Narrabri CBD.

“Retail owners have been advocating for an increase in security to improve visibility of the shopping precinct and therefore strengthen safety for shoppers and local businesses – so this is a great outcome for the Narrabri community,” Mr Humphries said.
