A power pole on the corner of Maitland and Lloyd Streets, Narrabri was damaged by a truck early on Wednesday morning.
Acting Police Inspector Scott Bolton said it’s believed a B-double truck collided with the power pole, causing the power pole to fall onto the footpath.
Essential Energy said the impact broke the power pole at the base and caused fallen power lines.
Essential Energy attended the scene and turned off the power to 616 homes and businesses in Narrabri.
“Essential Energy crews responded immediately and after ensuring the safety of the public they rerouted the electricity network around the damaged power pole so that power could be restored to 573 homes and businesses at 8.12am and a further eight at 8.17am,” said Essential Energy’s manager of community relations Northern David Crough.
“Repairs to the network, including the replacement of the power pole, are currently underway.
“The public is reminded to report damage to the electricity network, including fallen or damaged power lines, immediately by calling 13 20 80 and to stay at least eight metres away from the line and anything in contact with it.
“Essential Energy thanks customers for their understanding as crews continue to work as quickly as safety allows to restore power for all customers”.
Acting Insp. Bolton said the driver carried on to Moree after hitting the pole, unaware of his actions but
returned to Narrabri in the afternoon where he was questioned by police and handed an infringement notice.
B-double trucks aren’t allowed to drive down Maitland Street due to weight restrictions.

A man has been charged after police discovered what’s alleged to be a hydroponic cannabis set-up, after executing a search warrant at Gunnedah on Febraury 4.
Just after 9.30am, officers from Oxley Police District executed a search warrant at a property on Breeza Street, Carroll, east of Gunnedah.
Police aid they found the hydroponic set-up within the home, seized what they allege to be 21 mature cannabis plants, leaf and a firearm component.
Police said a 41-year-old man was arrested and taken to Gunnedah Police Station, while a five-year-old child living at the home was placed into the care of a family member; a child-at-risk notification has been made.
The man has been charged with possess prohibited drug, supply prohibited drug, enhanced indoor cultivate prohibited plant-expose child, and acquire firearm part without authority.
The man appeared at Gunnedah Local Court yesterday, and was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on March 3.

Police officers are appealing for information following the alleged theft of a vehicle from Boheena Street, Narrabri.
Acting Police Inspector Scott Bolton said it’s believed the vehicle went missing between 4.30pm on February 1 and 4am on February 2.
Acting Insp. Bolton said the vehicle’s registration number is CS 79 ZR and described the vehicle as a silver Toyota Hilux, single cab ute with an Aluminium tray.

Acting Insp. Bolton said police officers are also investigating a report of a break and enter at a home on Nandewar Street, Narrabri on January 23.
He said an estimated $19,000 worth of belongings including jewellery are missing.
“As a general reminder when you’re not at home – make sure that your house is locked and secured as well as your car,” he said.

Wee Waa police officers have recovered a motorbike that was allegedly stolen from Doonside in Sydney on December 26.
The motorbike was located in Alma Street, Wee Waa on February 1 .
Acting Insp. Bolton described the vehicle as a black Yahama 650 with no registration plates.
