Motorists travelling the Newell Highway are finding an unusual, but for many, irresistible invitation to stop.
Namoi Valley Antique Vehicle Car Club members park a range of their classic vehicles in The Crossing Theatre car park on a Sunday morning every three months, erect their ‘Cars and coffee – all welcome’ sign on the highway and wait for drivers to pull in.
And the travellers do stop, and many of them, caravanners, families and car enthusiasts of all kinds, breaking their journey to and from Queensland for the opportunity to talk cars.
“The coffee van is parked right next to the cars, they take a break, have a cup of coffee and inspect our vehicles,” said NVACC member Allan Pym.
“They like to ask questions about ours, reminisce and talk about their own cars and their interest in cars.”
The novel visitor attraction is yet another welcoming initiative from local people.
Another member observed, ‘the visitors will continue their journey but will recall the hospitality and friendliness of the locals in Narrabri – and a shared interest in cars.”
