IN recognition of Narrabri West Public School’s student academic growth results and excelling teaching and learning practices, the school was honoured to welcome deputy secretary of public schools Deb Summerhayes and Namoi Principals Network director of educational leadership Theressa Miles.
West school leaders warmly greeted Ms Summerhayes and Ms Miles, sharing their experiences as leaders and discussing both their learning goals and the innovative teaching and learning practices happening throughout the classrooms.
Ms Summerhayes and Ms Miles visited every classroom to observe the consistent explicit teaching and learning practices and routines that are part of daily school life.
The visitors were impressed by what they saw and enjoyed talking to the students about their learning.
Narrabri West Public School has always focused on strong leadership and continuous improvement.

Teachers and staff have worked together to make sure every student gets the best learning experience possible.
Since 2013, the school has embedded explicit teaching and formative assessment consistently in every classroom, from preschool to year 6.
This means teachers use evidence-based effective teaching practices and strategies to improve learning outcomes for all students.
The recent visit reinforced how Narrabri West Public School upholds the aspirations outlined in the Department of Education’s Our Plan for NSW Public Education – ensuring every student succeeds.
Classrooms remain engaging learning spaces where high expectations are evident and all students are actively engaged in their learning.
Narrabri West was proud to have shown Ms Summerhayes and Ms Miles how the school community works together to achieve excellence.
