The recent years have been hard for small businesses.
Unrelenting drought years have taken their heavy toll on the farming community which has impacted directly on to our shire’s small business owners and their staffs.
Now, a calamitous blow has struck. The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered drastic measures from the Australian and state governments aimed at slowing the spread of this insidious virus.
There is confusion around the decree that ‘non essential businesses’ will be shut down.
Businesses of all kinds may be impacted, but for pubs and clubs which have been ordered to shut their doors, the measures are very damaging.
The pubs and clubs’ bottle shops can remain open.
Restaurants and cafes will be restricted to takeaway or home delivery services. “The best thing people can do to help is buy a takeaway meal” one business owner suggested.
“And it is more important than ever that the community supports our local shops and businesses. Everything we need is here.
“Please buy locally.”
