Community groups across the Parkes electorate are being encouraged to apply for up to $20,000 in funding under the latest round of the Australian government’s Stronger Communities Programme.
Expressions of interest for round 10 are now open, with $150,000 available for projects in each federal electorate.
Federal Member for Parkes Jamie Chaffey said the program could help community organisations get projects underway or complete existing work.
“The Stronger Communities Programme is a great opportunity for community groups to get that important project off the ground, or to finish one that is already underway,” Mr Chaffey said.
“In these tough times, every dollar counts, and a grant of up $20,000 could make a significant difference to a group looking at a project such as hall improvements, purchasing equipment or improving accessibility.
“Community groups and local government make our communities wonderful places to live in. This is one way they can receive some solid support to keep making a difference in their local communities.
“Last year saw some great organisations receive funding, including Camp Cypress in Baradine, funding for Orana Support Service for the Dubbo Youth Accommodation Centre and money towards the Fun Family Fitness program in Broken Hill.
“I encourage community organisations to take a look at the Stronger Communities Programme and consider applying.”
Eligible applicants include incorporated not-for-profit organisations, non-distributing cooperatives, companies limited by guarantee, Australian Indigenous corporations, eligible religious organisations and local councils.
Funding can cover up to 100 per cent of eligible project costs for eligible not-for-profit organisations. Local councils must contribute at least 50 per cent of eligible project costs.
The expression-of-interest process will be used to select organisations to be nominated to submit a formal application to the federal government for funding under the Stronger Communities Programme.
Expressions of interest must be submitted to Mr Chaffey’s office by 5pm on Monday November 2.
Further information and eligibility guidelines are available through Mr Chaffey’s website and the Australian government’s Stronger Communities Programme information page.
Community organisations can also contact Mr Chaffeys office on (02) 6882 0999 for further information.
