The Chinese government’s response to Australia’s call for an inquiry into the origins of the coronavirus was to threaten Australian agricultural imports, tourism from China and Chinese student attendance at Australian universities. They have quickly delivered on the agriculture threat, the threat about students is also significant – there were approximately two million Chinese students in Australia in 2019.
