Narrabri’s sporting landscape will start looking far more familiar in the coming months, with tennis competition play set to resume in July followed by basketball in August.
Narrabri Tennis announced yesterday that it would host a Wednesday night winter doubles competition from July 22, followed by Friday night junior match play which will resume from July 24.
Before then the Dangar Park Tennis Centre will host a North West Tennis event on Sunday, July 19.
The 2020 JDS series has been cancelled but the North West Tennis Committee will be running four events – at Inverell, Narrabri, Armidale and West Tamworth – using the same format as the old JDS series.
These events will then lead into the Champion of Champions which will be held at Inverell on August 22 and 23.
The current point score from our first two JDS events will still stand.
The series will be called the North West Return to Tennis Series.
Meanwhile Narrabri Basketball Association president Merv Bushby said that the association was looking towards running its usual competition from mid August.
It will be a completely fresh season, not taking into account results from last season, which was just three weeks old before it was abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There is a lot more to work out yet, but our committee is working hard to get us up and going,” Bushby said.
Bushby also said that a referees’ course was being planned, and that each adult team for the coming season would be required to have one player attend.
