Former Wee Waa boy Braydon Trindall made his NRL debut on Friday night and he did so in style with a victory in Indigenous Round.
Trindall started at halfback for the Cronulla Sharks as he became the 540th player to line up for the club.
The Sharks took on the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium in the round 12 match and led 18-14 at half-time, but trailed 26-18 late in the contest.
But three converted tries in the final 10 minutes saw the Sharks score a 36-26 victory. It was the Sharks’ third consecutive win and its sixth win in its past seven matches.
Trindall replaced injured halfback Chad Townsend and played a solid game.
He made 18 tackles at an efficiency rate of 81.8 per cent, he ran 35 metres, eight of which were post contact, and he kicked an average of 51.9 metres.
After the game Trindall was interviewed by the injured Townsend for the club’s official website and described his debut as “special”.
“It was really special, a good round to [make the debut],” he said.
“I had all the family there to watch so it was unreal.”
Trindall lived in Wee Waa until he was 11-years-old when he moved north to Caboolture in Queensland.
He played some of his junior footy for the Wee Waa Panthers before joining the Caboolture Snakes after he relocated.
In 2015 he played for the Sunshine Coast Falcons in the club’s Cyril Connell Cup and he also represented the Queensland under-16 team and the Queensland under-16 Murri team.
The following year he moved up to the Falcons’ Mal Meninga Cup side, then in 2017 he played 14 games for the Melbourne Storm’s under-20 side.
In 2018 he joined the Sharks where he played in the Jersey Flegg Cup side.
That year his team won the grand final against Penrith Panthers and Trindall was named man-of-the-match in a game where he crossed for a try and kicked three goals.
In 2019, Trindall played for the Newtown Jets, Cronulla’s NSW Cup feeder club and also represented the Queeensland under-20s team.
That season he played in the Jets’ NSW Cup Grand Final and NRL State Championship-winning sides.
