Future looks bright as NDJRL sides claim another clean sweep

2020 will be a year to remember for an abundance of reasons, but for Narrabri and District Junior Rugby League it’s the performances on the park which are shaping up as the primary reason the year will never be forgotten

For a second consecutive round of the North West Group 4 Junior Rugby League season, NDJRL’s under-13s, under-15s and under-16s sides were all victorious following their Collins Park clean sweep in round two.

All three of the round three matches were won on the road.

On Saturday the 15s and 16s teams travelled to Gunnedah to play at Kitchener Park where they beat Collegians 26-22 and North Tamworth Bears 32-10 respectively.

The following day the under-13s travelled to Farrer where they demolished the North Tamworth Bears 78-12.

That match at Farrer was played in cold, windy and muddy conditions in which the junior Blues excelled.

Nate Browning crossed for five tries to take his season tally to 13 four-pointers.

Jack Anderson, Jackson Humphries and Fletcher Williams all bagged doubles and Lincoln Browning, Riley Bruce, Toby Galagher and Noah Gordon crossed for a try each.

Jack Anderson slotted four conversions, Declan Rooney kicked three and Toby Galagher added two.

The under-15s junior Blues team only travelled with 10 players to Gunnedah and under the competition’s gentleman’s agreement Collegians also played with 10.

The Blues’ leading try scorer Ashton Smith crossed for his second hat-trick of the campaign to take his season total to eight, Isaiah Cochrane bagged a double and Tim Shields went over once.

Jaylan Sharpley kicked the side’s only conversion in its four-point win.

In the under-16s team’s 22-point victory Joc Ford crossed for two tries and teammates Cameron Worrell, Daniel McMillan and Gus Smith all claimed one try each.

Zack Doring kicked five conversions to add 10 extra points.

The under-13s have now won all three of their games, a combined 150-20.

The under-15s team has also won all three of its games and the 16s have won two from three.

The skill, dominance and resilience that all three sides have shown in the first three rounds of the season have highlighted just how bright the future of rugby league is in Narrabri.

In round four the three junior Blues teams will all play at Collins Park this Saturday.

The under-13s team plays against Farrer Gold at 10am, the 15s side challenges Dungowan at 11.20am and the under-16s team will host Farrer at 12.40pm.
