The latest casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic is the Narrabri and District Pony Club’s 2020 pony camp which has been cancelled due to health concerns and the difficulty of meeting the necessary requirements for such an event.
The club’s committee met on Tuesday night to discuss whether or not the 2020 camp would go ahead and a vote was held in which the majority decided against running the annual event this year.
Narrabri and District Pony Club president Steve Falkiner told The Courier that the decision was made considering the health and well-being of not only local pony club members but also the entire Narrabri community.
Falkiner said that the committee was disappointed that it could not host the highly-anticipated annual event this year, but it would be back bigger and better in 2021.
He also thanked the club’s sponsors and businesses who support the camp each year for their ongoing assistance.
Narrabri Pony Club is now planning to run an event of some sort for local members sometime in the coming school holidays.
Meanwhile the Zone 5 Pony Club executive has made the decision to postpone the 62nd Zone 5 Jamboree until October 2021 primarily due to the safety of the riders, along with everyone else involved, caused by the current ongoing pandemic.
Zone 5 Pony Club recently confirmed that Gunnedah and District Pony Club will be the host club for the 62nd Zone 5 Jamboree to be held next year.
