Junior Blues 13s score their fourth straight win

Narrabri and District Junior Rugby League hosted North West Group 4 Junior Rugby League round four matches on Saturday as the junior Blues’ under-13s, 15s and 16s teams all competed at Collins Park.

The under-13s team won its fourth straight match, accounting for Farrer Gold 40-8, while the other two teams went down fighting.

The under-15s side lost its first game of the season when it lost 36-6 against Dungowan, and the under-16s team was defeated in a high-scoring encounter against Farrer 40-32 to start the season with two wins and as many losses.

The under-13s’ 32-point win saw the team extend its for and against points difference to 162 after outscoring its first four opponents 190-28.

The team’s leading try scorer Nate Browning crossed for a hat-trick against Farrer Gold to take his season total to 16 four-pointers in four games. Teammate David Biles bagged a double while Darcy Dickinson, Toby Galagher and Jackson Humphries both crossed for one try apiece. Jack Anderson knocked over two conversions to add four extra points while Toby Galagher and Jackson Humphries also nailed one each.

In the Junior Blues’ under-15s loss against Dungowan the team’s leading try scorer Ashton Smith scored his team’s only try to take his season total to nine. Goal kicker Jamarl Zarka converted that try.

In the under-16s’ eight-point loss Daniel McMillan claimed a hat-trick of tries, and teammates Joc Ford, Jesse Druce and Gus Smith all scored a try each. Zack Doring added eight extra points off the boot with four conversions.

This weekend all three Junior Blues teams will play in Gunnedah at Kitchener Oval.

North West Group 4 Junior Rugby League said that due to the Farrer leave weekend (and their teams being therefore unavailable to play) it was unable to play a normal round of footy.

Since it is such a limited season, North West Group 4 Junior Rugby League elected to organise an extra game for all the non-Farrer teams in the competition this weekend.

These games run on slightly different times and in the 15s a different format due to the odd number of teams.

The under-13s teams will both play one 40-minute game each. The Blues will play the second game of the day at Kitchener Oval when they go head-to-head with Kootingal.

The under-15s teams will play two 20-minute games each. The Blues will take on Manilla at 12.35pm, then back up to play the next game against hosts Gunnedah in the next timeslot at 1pm.

Only two under-16s teams are available to play on the day which are Narrabri and North Tamworth. Those two teams will play a 60-minute contest which will kick off at 2.20pm.
