The Bureau of Meteorology has raised its weather outlook to La Niña ‘alert’ status – the chance of a La Niña this year has increased to 70 per cent, three times the normal likelihood. La Niña typically results in above-average winter-spring rainfall, cooler and cloudier days, more tropical cyclones, and an earlier onset of the first rains of the wet season across the north, the Met Bureau explains.
