Federal, State Members inspect Narrabri Shire projects

With less than two weeks until Spring, the weather we are currently experiencing is creating great growing conditions for the fantastic looking crops emerging in the Shire.

Small and scattered rainfall and cooler evening conditions with warming days are producing crops that have not flourished like this for many years, so fingers crossed these great conditions will continue and producers will be reaping some rewards in the coming months.

This will certainly be a great boost to the local economy, as well as increasing the positivity in our wonderful rural region.

Councillors and Council staff recently hosted the Local Government Week Community barbecues in many of the towns and villages – with the exception of Pilliga – that was washed-out on the day.

Who would have thought.

Therefore, Pilliga community members are invited to attend the re-scheduled community barbecue to be held at the Pilliga Bore Baths on Friday, August 21, to start at 12.30pm.

These barbecues have been a wonderful opportunity for residents to meet their council representatives and staff and discuss any matters that they wish to raise.

I will be attending the Pilliga barbecue and look forward to seeing the locals on the day.

It was great to see Member for Parkes Mark Coulton last week, on one of his his regular visits to the Narrabri Shire.

It was an opportunity to have a quick tour with Mark and his staff to view where the Drought Communities Program funding has started project works – one of which includes The Crossing Theatre cinema refurbishment. He was very impressed with the progress of this project. We also had brief discussions on Inland Rail and the progress on the Northern NSW Inland Port.

It is great to see that we have had two Ministers attend the Shire (Sam Farraway MLC the week prior) to ‘check on’ their rural counterparts, this brings a feeling of optimism, confidence and encouragement that council is making the right decisions by their community, and achieving results through ongoing State and Federal liaison and discussions to make sure that we are not forgotten and left behind.
