It’s a pity we can’t grow truffles in the backyards of Narrabri Shire homes – truffles are currently worth about $2500 a kilo. But evidently you need particular kinds of trees, oaks and hazelnuts, to provide the right underground environment around the roots. And a dog to sniff them out any type of dog will do, evidently, but Labradors are good truffle snufflers.
