Narrabri RSL subbranch president Gary Mason OAM has been invited to go along to the next Narrabri Shire Council meeting on March 23 which will see the first ‘acknowledgement’ of Australia’s returned service people included in the pre-meeting protocols.

Mr Mason said the acknowledgement was ‘a good thing’ and had been endorsed by members of the RSL subbranch at its last meeting.

“Everyone was in full agreement,” he said.

“It is good that the council is recognising the fallen and those who have served the country.”

The inclusion of the acknowledgement of Australia’s service people follows the council’s unanimous adoption of Cr Ron Campey’s motion that it be included.

The acknowledgement will follow the traditional prayer, presented at the start of each monthly meeting by a member of the Narrabri clergy, and the acknowledgement of indigenous heritage.

Meanwhile, the adoption of the pre-meeting acknowledgement to the sacrifice and service of Australia’s service personnel has received state-wide publicity on ABC radio.
