The developing gas industry is bringing career opportunities to the district.

“One way Santos shares the benefits of natural gas development with our local communities is by providing employment, education and training opportunities,” a spokesman said.

“After the state and federal governments approved our Narrabri gas project last year, Santos has begun local traineeship programs for the first time in 2021.

“During April, two new trainees started with Santos, school-based trainee, Riley Dickinson and business administration trainee, Kira Goodhew.

“Riley is a Year 11 student at Narrabri High School and joins the Santos team every Wednesday, spending time in different parts of the business.

“He’s interested in a mechanical trade and will complete a Cert II in Mechanical Engineering during his two-year traineeship.

“Kira is a Narrabri local, having graduated from St Mary’s High School in 2019, and will complete a Cert III in Business during her 12-month traineeship with Santos.

“The role appealed to Kira because it enables her to remain in Narrabri while developing her career.”

“I applied for this position wanting to continue in a full-time position in an area that may allow me to expand and grow my career,” Kira said.

“The traineeships are run in partnership with Programmed Skilled Workforce and offer both classroom-based training and on-the-job experience,” the Santos spokesman said.

“Santos is committed to investing in the development of local talent and providing employment and skilling opportunities which can translate into long-term, meaningful careers in the industry.

“As appraisal and development of the Narrabri gas project progresses, these opportunities will only increase for the Narrabri community.

“In line with our core value to build a better future by having a positive impact in our communities, Santos is proud to work with and provide these opportunities to folks in the Narrabri region.”
