The Burren Junction School of Arts Hall was buzzing with activity on Friday, June 18, as residents from across the district attended a trivia night and dressed to the theme ‘winter wonderland’.

There were plenty of creative costumes on display from winter warrior outfits to ski suits, santa hats and even a burly bear suit.

The trivia night raised money for the Burren Junction Public School P and C Association and the popular event was organised by teacher Tamsin Quirk, who has just finished teaching at BJPS and will be greatly missed by the school community.

“The night was spectacular – it went so much better than I anticipated,” said Miss Quirk.

“It has been the first time that the district has had the opportunity to mingle and socialise freely since the COVID outbreak in March 2020, and we were very lucky with the timing after this week’s announcements.”

Miss Quirk said running the trivia night via an online program worked well and it allowed teachers to take part in the trivia contest.

“It gave everybody a chance to mingle and socialise with their teams, and the school staff a chance to participate, adding a bit of extra fun.

“All the feedback I have had from the evening has been very positive.”

“I couldn’t have asked for better support from the community in regards to sponsors and participants,” said Burren Junction Public School teacher Tamsin Quirk.

Miss Quirk said there were many highlights at the trivia night.

“The impromptu auction was definitely one, the outfits, the atmosphere and the amount of people who turned up to support our little school.

“The greatest highlight would have to be the support we received from the Wee Waa Bakery who generously offered to do up charcuterie boxes and cob loaves and donate some of the profits to our fundraiser.

“This was an amazing help because it meant that our P and C, made up of ever-assisting parents and friends, could participate in the evening without the burden of catering as an extra fundraiser.

“The other major highlight was everyone being able to get together as a community to have a bit of fun.”

Miss Quirk said the evening raised an impressive $4000 and the money will help cover the costs of the

upper primary students’ excursion to Sydney later in the year.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all the sponsors who readily jumped on board to donate cash and prizes,” added Miss Quirk.

“Burren Junction Public School has been my first teacher posting.

“I have definitely enjoyed my time coming to school each day to teach such a great group of students.

“I have had the chance to meet some absolutely amazing children and their families.

“I wish them all the best for the remainder of the year, and can’t wait to support them in other events.

“The school will always hold a special place in my heart – it is a little school that has made a big impact,” added Miss Quirk who is returning to live in her hometown of Moree.
