Country Press Australia has signed a letter of intent with social media giant Facebook.
The document, subject to signing a long-form deal between the two entities, is a multi-year agreement that would provide an innovation fund to support newsroom sustainability and digital transformation.
Country Press Australia advocates on behalf of newspaper publishers across the nation.
The Courier is a long-standing member of Country Press Australia, as well as the Country Press Association of New South Wales.
The Courier’s manager, Wanda Dunnet, serves as a committee member of Country Press Australia and is vice president of the Country Press Association of New South Wales.
Country Press Australia president, Andrew Manuel, said the funding provided by Facebook under this agreement, would help sustain original public interest journalism in the multitude of regional and local communities serviced by CPA members.
Mr Manuel thanked Facebook and its negotiating team for the constructive discussions over many meetings that lead to the announcement.
News partnership led for Facebook Australia and New Zealand, Andrew Hunter said this funding support will help Country Press Australia continue to build its digital platforms and reach new audiences.
“We are continuing to invest in programs to support Australian journalism and build sustainable business models,” he said.
“Our agreement with CPA furthers our work with small rural newsrooms.”
