Narrabri’s Giant Pink Slug has become the unofficial mascot of the town, and is especially well-known to locals and visitors who frequent Mt Kaputar.
Now, there’s a sticky toy – which looks just like the real thing – available to purchase at the Narrabri Region Visitor Information Centre.
In early 2020, staff at the centre reviewed the current merchandise and souvenir range.
They quickly discovered a need to increase their focus on local and regional products, with new items that showcase the Narrabri region.
The centre was after a unique souvenir, one that’s special to the area, that would appeal to both tourists and locals.
Staff had frequently been asked in recent years if the Visitor Information Centre had anything on the Mt Kaputar Giant Pink Slug, so it was decided new items relating to the elusive animal would be created.
It became clear the creature’s profile was becoming recognised among travellers, meaning there was an opportunity to develop merchandise catering to this market.
The concept grew from there and the team was able to unveil the Giant Pink Sticky Slug Toy this month.
It’s just one of several branded Giant Pink Slug products hitting the local shelves.
A number of new Giant Pink Slug products are in the development phase, with the hopes of more merchandise increasing the awareness of the animal.
The slug, which creates fascination and excitement for scientists, locals and tourists alike, is the first in a line of brand new unique souvenirs – more are expected to be released later this year.
The Giant Pink Slug is only seen when it is raining, or shortly thereafter, so it’s perfect for anyone wishing to remember their time at Mt Kaputar or as a gift to represent the uniqueness of the Narrabri region.
The new toy has created a lot of interest from locals on social media, with many rushing in to purchase their very own sticky slug.
To coincide with the release of the Giant Pink Sticky Slug toy, the Narrabri Region Visitor Information Centre has introduced the Slugventures competition.
Over the following weeks, the centre will be releasing pictures of the Giant Pink Sticky Slug toy in various locations across the shire on their social media.
The first person to guess the slug’s location correctly will win their very own Giant Pink Sticky Slug toy.
Future competitions will also be launched as new products arrive.
