Premier Gladys Berejiklian has issued a stark warning that NSW hasn’t seen the worst of the COVID outbreak in the state.

The comment came at Wednesday’s virus update when NSW recorded its highest daily total from the entire pandemic.

NSW recorded 633 new locally acquired cases of COVID as at 8pm on Tuesday night.

It was a steep jump from the 452 cases announced on Tuesday morning.

“At the moment, according to the data we have, every person who has the virus is spreading it to at least more than one person,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“For us to know we have reached our peak, that can’t continue.

“What the data is telling us in the last few days is that we haven’t seen the worst of it.

“The way we stop this is by everybody staying at home.”

Following yesterday’s update, Western NSW Local Health District annouced that a further 21 cases had been detected in Dubbo taking the city’s total to almost 130.

This was in addition to a case each in Bourke and Mudgee.

Worsening COVID numbers in western districts in addition to continued detection of cases in Greater Sydney despite strict lockdown measures casts doubt as to whether the state-wide stay-at-home order will be lifted after Saturday.

However, Deputy Premier John Barilaro told media that it was premature to announce whether regional NSW will have restrictions extended.

He described it as a 50-50 call to be made by the state’s crisis committee.

Mr Barilaro has reassured regional residents that the lockdown decision will come well before Saturday.
