Every bee has its day, as the saying goes, but bees have several days – Australian Bee Day in May and more recently, World Honeybee Day on Saturday, August 21. Bees are vital for pollination of course, but there is more to know in the trivia department. Entomologists regard them as the smartest insects – they can recognise people’s faces, understand numeracy and can count up to four, and can teach bee-work practices to other bees.
